Lanzarote Training Camp
Enduroman #1, Edgar Ette, leads this informal, relaxed sea swimming camp. You will meet future A2A athletes and some previous competitors also normally return. On this camp, you will gain new friends and receive invaluable support from Enduroman and your fellow swimmers.
This camp is also open to future Channel Swimmers, if you are training for any other long distance swimming event or even if you want to enjoy a swimming holiday in the sun!
DATES: 16 - 30 January 2025
Athletes are welcome to attend the camp for any or all of the dates Enduroman are on Lanzarote. Ideally though we would like all A2A athletes to arrange their dates so that they participate in the 2 key sessions (below) as a minimum.
TRAINING PROGRAMME
There is no formal training programme as decisions are made on a daily basis, taking into account the 2 key sessions detailed below. After discussion with Enduroman #1, each individual athlete decides their own training programme for the day from the options on offer. This flexible approach works, enabling each athlete to train to their limit and also to recover.
The 2 key sessions on offer each week are :
Sunday night - A2A talk and Q&A followed by 6hr run/walk through the night. After a short rest, this is followed by a post run swim of up to 6 hrs on Monday morning where the athlete experiences the cold brought on by fatigue and has the opportunity to test their nutrition.
Wednesday - long swim of up to 10hrs.
CAMP OBJECTIVES
At Lanzarote, Enduroman aim to provide an environment where athletes can explore their physical limits while learning from and supporting each other. Experience from previous years has shown that individuals very quickly become a team and encourage each other to achieve way more than they would have thought possible.
As well as the training benefit of hours in the sea, athletes come away with a bank of knowledge gained from informal talks and conversations at the beach and around the dinner table.
Enduroman do their best to ensure that athletes attempting Arch 2 Arc leave the camp knowing exactly how to prepare for a successful Channel swim after the 87 mile run down to Dover
WATER TEMPERATURE
The sea temperature is normally around 17°C - 19°C. Wet suits are optional.
Enduroman will happily sign off 6 hour qualifying swims for the English Channel if the water temperature allows.
COST
Athletes arrange their own flights, transfers and accommodation. The fee for Enduroman's services (payable via BACS when you return from the camp) is £30 per day, this price includes help with feeding and nutrition, bag security on the beach, training and event advice and boat support.
BOOKING PROCEDURE
Book your accommodation and flights. Enduroman will be based at the H10 Timanfaya Palace Hotel. If you would like to stay somewhere else then our advice is to read the Accommodation section on this page and be sure to find somewhere within easy walking distance of the swim area.
Complete the Lanzarote Camp Booking Form, which asks for details of your dates and accommodation. On receipt of the form Enduroman will contact you to confirm your place on the camp.
FINDING ACCOMMODATION
The swim training is centred around Playa Flamingo and Playa Blanca beaches and we advise you to find accommodation within easy walking distance.
Enduroman will be staying at the H10 Timanfaya Palace Hotel, right by Playa Flamingo. It is very close to the swim training area and serves buffet style food. If you want to stay in this hotel we suggest you book EARLY as it gets booked up.

GETTING TO/FROM THE AIRPORT

There is an hourly bus service between the airport and Playa Blanca (linea 61) that costs around 3 euros.
Private/shared transfers can also be arranged.
SWIM NUTRITION
Sport nutrition is not easily or cheaply available on the island so please bring your own. It is important to find foods that work for you during long swims - if you need ideas see the Lanzarote Swim Camp Notes on the FAQs page.
YOU MUST BRING WITH YOU:
Tow Float (with a long leash) - this is absolutely essential. If you do not have one, you cannot swim.
Suncream
Lubricant (Vaseline) to prevent chaffing in salt water (expensive to buy on Lanzarote)
A named bag or cool bag to leave on the beach during swims for your feeds
Woolly hat and warm clothes for after swims
A head torch if you intend to do the night run
If you are using a wetsuit, we highly recommend buying a Mugiro Wetsuit neck protector from Amazon
Please see this PDF for a comprehensive list of what we recommend you bring.
