ABOUT THE PADDLE
Eddie and Tim plan to Kayak the 400 mile South Coast, Lands End to Thames Estuary, over 11 days from 6th May 2022. This will be the longest paddle of their lives, covering 40 miles daily in 10 hrs. Being 66 & 65 yrs old they know that following the 6 months training they will be pushed.
Eddie and Tim are taking on this challenge because they want to help families facing unimaginable heartbreak - the knowledge that their child may not live into adulthood. Julia’s House provides care for children with life-limited or life-threatening conditions to give their parents a much-needed break. Amazingly, Julia’s House has to raise 95 per cent of the money it needs each year to run this vital service which is why we have chosen to support them. Your kind sponsorship will make a life-changing difference to these children & their families.
Please help us reach our £4000 target for them

The story so far…
Day 1 (4/5/22) After driving from Portland to Cornwall, Tim and Eddie started from Sennen Cove at 1610 and paddled 12 miles to Mousehole in 2hrs and 45mins. Cracking start! 💪👏👏
Day 2 (5/5/22) Tim and Eddie paddled an epic 28 miles from Mousehole to Porthoustock today. They are up at 0415 tomorrow for another long day on the water.
Day 3 (6/5/22) Today Ed and Tim were on the water by 6:10am and went from from Porthoustock to Looe. They arrived safe and sound at 2pm after nearly 8 hrs of paddling and 37 miles.
Day 4 (7/5/22) Eddie and Tim started today at 7am in Looe and finished at Torcoss 7pm. 10.5hrs of padding. In the last 3.5 days they have paddled an incredible 120 miles!!
Day 5 (8/5/22) Sadly no paddling today as no improvement in sea conditions. 🌊🌊 Poor future forecast means back to Portland to await better weather…
Day 6 (9/5/22) The boys have been busy today and also worked with the wind rather than against it!! 🤓
Message from the Boss about today’s paddling…
“After being blown out at Slapton yesterday and not being able to launch into the Easterly wind and waves, we were forced to postpone & return to Portland.
Today we decided due to weather forecast to paddle East to Seaton, rather than sit at home twiddling our thumbs waiting for the right weather.
We started from Portland Castle and experienced the hardest rounding of Portland we have ever had.
After leaving the Harbour South Entrance we faced an Easterly swell that rose to 10ft off of the Grove & just before the tip of Portland Bill.
After 1 1/2 hrs of intense concentration we rounded the Bill and turned with the wind and wave NW on a much flatter sea on a direct bearing to Seaton.
After launching at 0750 we landed at Seaton at 1730. 9hrs 40 on the water and 39 miles paddled.
We intend to be back on the water as soon as possible.”
Day 7 (10/5/22) Message from Tim…
After yesterday’s ‘exciting’ rounding of Portland, the poor weather forecast has put us off paddling the next 2 days. However it has allowed us to sit and plan.
So now - weather depending - we will set off back to Torcross on Thursday 12th - where we were blown out - to complete the 37 mile leg to Seaton.
Then on Friday the plan is to paddle Portland to Swanage to get us back on track.
Pray along with us to the Weather Gods 🙏🏼😎😎
Day 8 (11/5/22) Today’s paddling has been blown out due to very strong winds, but the boys hope to be back on the water tomorrow to finish the section between Torcross and Seaton.
However, this break has given them some time to plan the next section and a HUGE thank you to www.worthingsailingclub.co.uk and www.shanklinsailingclub.com for offering them secure facilities overnight for next week paddling.
Day 9 (12/5/22) The boys set off from Slapton Sands at 11:15am today and reached Seaton in less than 10 hours covering nearly 42 miles 💪💪 They are back on track now and will return to Portland to start the big push to Margate.
Day 10 (13/5/22) Weather too bad to paddle today.
Day 11 (14/5/22) Paddle started Portland Castle at 1300 hrs. Tim and Eddie stopped at Lulworth Cove for coffee & cake about 40min then arrived Swanage at 1929hrs. Stunning weather great tides reached 8 mph at times. Met on the point at Swanage by Graham Kelly #ultrastalker thank you sir. Thanks Kath for the pickup.
Message from Eddie: “Tim and I know we could never have got this far without the support received from our families and friends. Thank you all”
Day 12 (15/5/22)
Message from Eddie:
“We are blown out again and the outlook for the week looks slightly difficult. We plan to leave Swanage with a good forecast in the hope not to get stuck on the Isle of Wight. We will keep you posted…
Due to the extra days taken because of weather stops. Our probably over ambitious plan to complete the 400 miles in about 11 days has clearly not happened. It is our intention to continue and complete the PP400 as soon as possible, but due to work and family commitments from May 22nd to 1st June there will be no paddling even if weather is good. But we are fortunate enough to have nearly two weeks from June 1st to ensure we complete.
Thank you all for your continued support”
Day 15 (18/5/22)
Edgar and Tim lef Swanage at 0612 this morning and arrived at Shanklin Sailing club. 41 miles in 9hr 50 👏👏👏
Day 16 (19/5/22)
Message from Eddie…
“We had a really good night with Liam and Yvonne at Shanklin, two like minded people - Liam sailed a 16ft catamaran 2500 miles round the whole UK coast!
This morning left Shanklin at 06 12hr. We past Selsey Bill at 1030 and finished due to the wind roughing up the water at Littlehampton time 1300hrs after 32miles.
We waited for the wind to drop with the intension to continue to Worthing but abandoned the idea and was driven by Chris to his home for shower food and home comforts.
Checking our milage we confirm we have completed 301miles to date.
It's tough kayaking 😂”
Day 17 (20/5/22)
Message from Eddie…
“We started at 0920 from Littlehampton. Very wet but flat. Past Worthing pier at 1030 past Brighton pier 1330 had lunch. Arrived New Haven at 1600 after struggling against a confused and angry sea for the last 1.5hrs. Very happy to sea Chris to take us back to his. Thanks son”
Another 27 miles paddled! 👏👏👏
Day 18 (21/5/22)
From Eddie…
“Seaford to Bexhill 21.5miles done In 4hr15min
We finished Bexhill as sea state got rough. Thank you Kevin for the pickup and lift home”
Paddling will be resumed after a short break due to work and family commitments. Starting again approx June 2nd weather permitting. The intention is to paddle Bexhill-on-sea to Dungerness, then Dungerness to Folkstone, then Folkstone to Margate.
Day 19 (12/6/22)
From Eddie…
“Sunday 12th started Bexhill at 0415 and paddled for 7hr 50 total with a break at 26 miles for just over a hour and then with a increasing Westerly wind had to abandon half way between Hythe and Sandgate for the rest of the day after completing 38miles.
Time to prepare our shingle beach accommodation for the night”
Day 20 (13/6/22)
Tim and Eddie got to the finish at 1430 after completing 423 miles of paddling from Sennen Cove to Margate raising over £1200 for Julia’s House. Epic achievement!
